Years 9 and 10

The Year 9 program has been designed to cater for the needs of students within this age group. It is a time of increasing independence for young adolescents as they strive to develop an identity for themselves that is separate to that of the key adults in their lives. Peer groups become increasingly important as they begin to formulate their own individual identity. The program has been constructed to enable students to use this time of exploration and self discovery as the basis of their learning.

The motto of Year 9 is 'Responsible Learning, Responsible Living" and the program endeavours to ensure that students understand what this means and how it can be lived out at school, at home and in the community.

In Year 9 the students study the following subjects:

  • Religious Education
  • Themes (an integrated subject combining English and Humanities)
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Language other than English (Indonesian or Italian)
  • Physical Education
  • Tasters (electives from Health and Physical Education, Technology Studies, Visual Arts and Performing Arts)
  • Unplugged Days (one full day per fortnight)
  • Pastoral Care

The students continue to develop in the use of the language of the Habits of Mind to describe their personal learning goals and construct portfolios of their Tasters work and of their other subjects.
